[ Emperor's Stargate | Theory | Stargate Context| Buy now | Disclaimer ]
It is often said that "You can advance and retreat" and "A true man knows when to yield and when not". We all experiences rise and fall in life. The author of "The Book of Changes", a classical work in China, uses "_" and "_ _" to create a system of 64 divinatory symbols, and makes the point clear with divinatory drawings, hinting the reader when and how to advance and retreat in life. The 64 divinatory symbols can be divided into 32 pairs, each opposing each other but also complementing each other in shape, which is the famous order of "either-or" in the philosophy of the I-Ching. The wave curve of the 32 pairs of symbols outlines the Chinese lifeline, also the dragon vein of the Chinese culture with a history of over 5000 years. What we've learned from it is the survival philosophy. It tells us when we should advance positively in favorable circumstances and when to retreat in times of low ebb. Take the financial crisis in 1997 as an example. Many dropped from the top and suffer. Their families broke up and some even committed suicide. Whereas some people conceal their real intentions to strive and become stronger and add value to themselves. They finally make their way through. Once good luck appears, they come back and prosper in their new life. Hence we have the saying “ A gentleman should know his fate” and “It is nothing to worry about if you enjoy what is natural and follow what is destined”, which should be paid attention to and thought through. |
